Favourites

I’m planning on building out this section of the site with a few lists of my favourite movies, books, songs and the like. That’ll take some time, but until I get around to it, here’s a short list of some of my favourite things.

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

Trying to work out how to explain what I like about these songs, I came across this in a Pitchfork review: with Pavement it’s the sound and feel that matter, not the words or themes. And later: It’s the way words sound and the way Malkmus sings them that gives his songs meaning. Yep. Good work, Pitchfork.

Ghost of Tsushima

The first action game I played as an adult and the only one I’ve ever been remotely “good” at. There are few things as satisfying as pulling off a perfect parry and following up with a killing blow.

Don Delillo.

One of the few writers I know I like for real because I came across his work by randomly picking Americana off the shelf at the uni library. I haven’t loved his post-Underworld work as much, but Mao II and The Names remain as golden as ever.

The Internet

It’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of the internet or fall into thinking that “the internet” equals FaceBook and Google and Twitter, but it’s a huge wild jungle with so many wonders to explore.
